Letter from the President
Thirty years and still going strong. Phi Beta Chi is thirty and never looked better. I remember when I was younger I thought thirty sounded so old. In 1978, I am sure I thought thirty years old was over the hill and I would never be that old. I chuckle at those thoughts now as I get closer to forty. When Phi Beta Chi started, I am sure it was hard to imagine celebrating thirty years of sisterhood. Yet, here we are. An organization turning thirty is a great milestone. Thirty years for an organization does say something important. We can withstand the infant years when our founders were trying to figure out who we were and how we would make our mark. Thank you, Alpha founders, for your dedication and tenacity to make it through those first years. We can make it through our teen years when we are trying to find a rhythm and refining our image. Thank you to those National Executive Council members who made significant contributions to the direction Phi Beta Chi took in the late eighties/early nineties. The twenties are often a time where we figure out who we are going to be and refine ourselves. I have had the honor to serve on the National Executive Council in different capacities for the last twelve years and can see firsthand how the sorority has grown. Through Phi Beta Chi’s twenties, we have come to a deeper understanding of who we are and are standing stronger in our identity. As we look to the next thirty years, there is a lot of reason to be encouraged. Phi Beta Chi has more than 2,000 alumnae. We have ten chapters/colonies that are expanding. We have a bright future with many reasons to be excited. The next thirty years will bring changes, growth, and joy. It is exciting to think we are half way to sixty. As we celebrate thirty years of Phi Beta Chi, let’s celebrate the past, relish the present and enliven the future. Amor Via Vitae in Christo!! Jen Bushore-Barry |
